Another return guest today - I think this must be their fifth visit!  Rosebud is helping those who are visiting family members  in Canberra much more comfortable.

Here's to having your own bathroom and your own Satellite TV remote!

“Beautiful home away from home in Canberra”

Reviewed 4 September 2011

I don’t really want to tell the world about ‘Rosebud’ in case I can’t get in next time I’m in Canberra! Rosebud is unique among places we have stayed, a 19th century cottage with all the conveniences of modern life, set on a suburban street in Canberra yet backing onto farmland. We have stayed in Rosebud twice now, and had the chance to look over the newest addition to the property, Bell’s Cottage, when we were there in August.

We arrived late in the afternoon to find Rosebud all toasty warm from a fire that had been lit for us by Maureen, the owner. Maureen came over from her nearby house to welcome us, and then left us to our own devices to enjoy the cottage.

Rosebud is self-contained with a full kitchen including oven, cook top and microwave, washing machine, slow-combustion wood heater (yay!) for those cold winter nights (or days) and reverse-cycle heating in both lounge and bedroom if you don’t feel like cranking up the fire. The bedroom has a lovely four-poster bed, and everywhere you look you find period artefacts, old photographs and interesting knick-knacks. Bells Cottage has been set up in a similar style, only without the wood fire.

It’s not far to all the usual Canberra attractions, although if you don’t have a car be aware that you will be about 8kms from the city centre. If you feel like a walk Mount Painter is directly behind Rosebud and offers great views of Canberra and the Brindabellas. All-in-all, a home away from home and a vastly better option than staying in a generic hotel.

Rain on the roof

There's nothing so snug and comforting in Winter, than the sound of rain on a tin roof.

It poured down last night - big claps of thunder and several heavy showers.  How wonderful did it sound on the roof!  Loved it, even though it woke me at 2am!

It's so lovely, you'll hope it rains during your stay!

Many Happy Returns :)

Mum and Laws B&W

I'm starting my blog anew today, to celebrate the move of my website to my own domain,!

It's mid-winter here in Canberra, and I take delight in how pleased my visitors are to be able to enjoy a warm getaway in the middle of our famed (within Australia, that is!) Canberra winters.  Of course, compared to the rest of the world, they're rather soft, but we Australians think it somewhat confronting to be presented with a light frost, lol!

Blog Archive

Rosebud cottage has a reverse-cycle airconditioner pumping out warm air, heatlamps in the bathroom, a further heater in the loungeroom and bedroom, lovely electric blankets, warmrails for the towels and a slow-combustion wood fire in the loungeroom.  Not to mention extra cosy wraps if you'd like one :)

Bell's Cottage has virtually the same facilities as Rosebud, electric blankets, heatlamps, etc with the exception of a small, but very powerful gas heater that heats the entire cottage in minutes, rather than a wood stove.  Some like to carry in the wood, while others prefer the touch of a button!

Whatever you'd prefer, if you're thinking of Canberra in the winter, treat yourself to a pampered version of a pioneer experience!

WARM regards!

Maureen :))
